Singaporean musician Hubert Ng makes waves in the K-Pop industry with new debut single for Xodiac

Singaporean musician Hubert Ng, a founding director and board member of SingPop Music Limited, has made a big splash in the K-Pop industry with his debut single “Calling” for 17-member boy group Xodiac. The English song, performed by six members, is set to release on March 13th.

Ng’s previous success includes writing hit songs for Taiwanese internet celebrity group “That Couple” and Hong Kong singer Chen Xiaodong, as well as selling songs to popular Chinese mainland artists such as Hua Chenyu, Rocket Girls, Hard Candy Girls 303, and Zhang Bichen. However, he encountered difficulties selling his music in the mainland with his signature “ballad songs” that did not fit the idol group market, so he decided to learn how to write K-pop and J-pop music during the pandemic period.

Every day, he wrote a K-pop or J-pop song and made friends with some Korean and Japanese publishing companies. “Calling” was sold by a Korean publishing company. Ng believes that writing English songs is a good opportunity for Singaporean songwriters who are strong in English.

Ng observed that K-pop emphasizes rhythm while J-pop focuses on melody. In 2022, he also released his first J-pop song “I Beg You” with a Japanese composer and lyricist.

While Ng’s strong point is still Mandarin pop songs, he hopes to diversify his music style and not limit himself to a particular market.

Xodiac (소디엑) is a 17-member trainee boy group from the Chinese agency One Cool Jacso. They are set to release their predebut song “Calling” on March 13th, 2023, featuring six members.
