Singpop recently hosted an insightful Zoom session featuring Singaporean music producer and songwriter Tat Tong , who shared his expertise on the pivotal role of Artiste & Repertoire (A&R) in the music industry. Known for collaborations with global stars like Christina Aguilera , Katy Perry , and Celine Dion , Tat brought deep industry knowledge to the conversation.
Tat addressed the growing trend of independent musicians, encouraging them to seek mentorship, collaborate strategically, and build a strong portfolio before approaching industry professionals. He stressed that while labels aren’t necessary for creating great music,
having a clear strategy is essential for success.
Throughout the session, Tat offered practical advice for emerging musicians, urging them to stay true to their artistic identity, refine their craft, and build meaningful relationships within the industry.
